Biography
Dr. Lauren Shapiro is an Associate Professor of Clinical Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Miami. After earning her medical degree from SUNY- Stony Brook, she completed her PM&R residency at the Northwestern University program at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago, where she served as Chief Resident. She subsequently earned a Masters in Public Health degree from the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. In 2014, she was among the first physicians to earn subspecialty board certification in Brain Injury Medicine. She currently provides inpatient rehabilitation care for survivors of traumatic brain injury, stroke, and polytrauma at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where she also provides clinical and didactic education for medical students and residents. Her clinical and research interests include the optimization of rehabilitation for and prevention of secondary injuries among adults with neurological conditions. She also collaborates with multi-disciplinary teams to study and educate others on the emergency preparedness and disaster response needs of individuals with disabilities.
